Public Input on Housing Topics – Tuesday, June 22 @ 6:00 PM

Posted on June 9th, 2021

The City of Harbor Springs is in the process of updating its master plan and there are some key topics about which the planning commission needs public input.  The topics are related to future housing strategies in the city.

The meeting will be hosted by a subcommittee of the planning commission and will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.  Everyone is invited including full and part-time residents, residents of other jurisdictions, business owners and employees. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube on the City’s channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC239_EvAg4uoL6zwho6JmAw

The subcommittee will provide some upfront information and then guide the discussion.  They are seeking input on 4 key topics

  1. What is your perception of the availability and affordability of homes in the city?

      2.  Should it be a city goal to have homes for all income levels, family sizes, and life stages?

      3.  Should it be a city goal to attract younger residents in particular?

      4. We will review some approaches that other cities are using to increase housing availability. Examples include smaller lot sizes, smaller home sizes, long term rental of accessory dwelling units, multi-family housing units, cottage neighborhoods, and more.   Do you believe that any of these are fit for Harbor Springs?

Note: This session will not focus on the short-term rental issue.  That will likely be a topic for its own session in the future.

No RSVP is necessary.  Please come and bring your best ideas on the issues.
