Parking

The City has adopted what is called the Uniform Traffic Code. This means that the parking restrictions that you find in almost every other city and village are applicable here such as parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or at a yellow curb.

We do not have any parking meters in town. The only time restrictions are from Memorial Day to Labor Day in the downtown area. (see map) We then restrict parking to 3 hours on the street and 4 hours in a lot from 7a until 7p except Sundays and Holidays. All other streets and lots permit all day parking.

During the winter we prohibit parking on all streets and lots from December 1 to March 31 for snow removal. If you need parking during this period call us and we will identify certain lots where you will be able to park overnight.

Going on a boat trip to Beaver Island or riding your bike to Cross Village? You are welcome to park at the City Hall/ Police Department location free of charge. If you need a place to store your boat or boat trailer for a few days contact us. The cost is $5 per day.

Snow Removal

It is illegal to plow snow or blow snow from private property into a City street. It is also illegal to plow snow onto private property other than your own, without the consent of the property owner.

If you plow snow across a street, you must remove all of the snow from the street. Violators may be cited and/or required to have the snow removed at their own expense.
