Public Notice
Lawn Watering Restriction
Effective July 1, 2009
Ensuring the safety and reliability of our water system is something we all care about. Managing our summertime use of water is now a critical part of the job.
Beginning July 1, 2009 lawn sprinkling is permitted only on alternate days.
Even numbered addresses may sprinkle only on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
Odd numbered addresses may sprinkle only on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday
Sprinkling will not be permitted on Friday
As you may know, the City of Harbor Springs is moving quickly to correct critical deficiencies in our municipal water system. When the necessary improvements have been made, the water system will again be ready to handle the extreme demand for water that occurs each summer when hundreds of residents are sprinkling their lawns.
Until the system is ready, we all have a duty to manage our water usage. Compliance with this regulation is required to help ensure that our water supply is free of contaminants and capable of meeting our demands, especially in the event of a fire or water emergency.
Except as permitted above, watering lawns is prohibited and is a violation of section 21.111 of the Harbor Springs City Code. Residents who violate the code will be subject to fines and other penalties permitted in the Code.
This alternate-day watering regulation will be a temporary restriction. If our facility improvements are completed on schedule, normal usage could return within two years. You will be advised when your water system is ready to handle the demands of unlimited watering again.
If we all do our part, we will all benefit from a safe and reliable supply of water, today and into the future.

City Manager
